SICICA'97 General Information

THE CITY OF ANNECY

On the shores of the cleanest lake in Europe, surrounded by a scenic range of mountains, Annecy is a lovely town in the northern French Alps, 40 kms away from Geneva Airport.

The city, with its superbly preserved old town and the lake are set in a spectacular mountain scenery. The city hosts a wide range of festivals throughout the year, in various areas such as animation films, sports movies, music, etc...

With easy reach of the town, this natural environment offers an unlimited range of sporting opportunities on land, water, and in the air.

Everybody will find something special to enjoy in Annecy, it has so much to offer !

WEATHER AND DRESS

Annecy is located at an altitude of 448 meters. In June, the weather is usually very pleasant and average temperatures are between 18°C (64°F) and 28°C (82°F).

Please, bring a raincoat as evening thunderstorms are not uncommon.

DATES

The symposium takes place from Monday 9 June 1997 to Wednesday 11 June 1997.

VENUE

The symposium will be held at the Imperial Congress Center which is located within walking distance of the town center in enchanting surroundings by the side of the mountain lake of Annecy in the heart of the French Alps.

The congress center is part of the completly refurbished hotel Imperial Palace (built in 1913) and was inaugurated in 1990. The present building, immediately adjacent to the lake, is divided into three main areas : the Congress Center, the Hotel (4****) and the Casino of the city.

The magnificent view of the lake and mountains fosters a convivial atmosphere. Guests can relax (between sessions, of course...) in the park or on the terraces facing the lake.

CONFERENCE LANGUAGE

The official language of the Symposium is English. There will be no simultaneous translation.

CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

All attendees will receive a copy of the proceedings (preprints) at the beginning of the Symposium. This is included in the symposium full registration fee.

GALA DINNER

The official gala dinner will be held on board of the "LIBELLULE" for a dinner cruise on the beautiful Lake of Annecy on Tuesday june 10th at 8:30 pm (boarding from 7:45pm).

The boat will cruise around the lake, allowing you to discover the beautiful setting of the mountains surrounding the lakeshore. In total comfort conditions, you will enjoy the dinner in a nice musical mood.

Should the number of participants exceed the boat seating capacity, reservations will operate on a first come, first served basis. Participants are therefore strongly encouraged to register in advance.

Full registration fees include the gala dinner.

HOTEL BOOKING INFORMATION

Hotel reservations must be made by completing and returning the enclosed registration form to before May 5, 1997: SICICA 97 C/O Annecy Congres 1 rue Jean Jaures F-74000 Annecy, France In order to benefit from special rates, applicable only for the participants of this meeting, all hotel reservations must be handled by Annecy Congres. Reservations will be handled only if they are accompanied by the required deposit :

Prices indicated on the form are solely intended as a guideline. The final price will be indicated on the Booking confirmation that will be sent to participants. Bookings will be processed on a first come, first served basis and are subject to room availability. If we are unable to meet your choice, Annecy Congres will contact you to find the best solution for you.

The deposit will be deducted from your hotel bill at the end of your stay. You will be informed of your hotel booking upon receipt of the deposit. No further modifications of a confirmed reservation can take place. Hotel deposits are non-refundable and remain the property of the hotel where the booking has been made.
