EUSFLAT Best Student-Paper Award

During the EUSFLAT 2010 General Assembly, held in Dortmund, June 29, it was approved to establish an award for the EUSFLAT Best Student Paper presented at each EUSFLAT conference.

Therefore, with this call we encourage young researchers to submit a paper to the EUSFLAT2011 conference, to be held in Aix les Bains, France (July 18-21, 2011) jointly with the “Rencontres francophones sur la Logique Floue et ses Applications”, LFA.

This EUSFLAT Best Student Paper Award will be given according to the following rules:

– Award must be properly announced in the EUSFLAT conference web site
– The applicant must be a Ph.D. student
– The applicant must be a EUSFLAT paying member when submitting application to this award
– The applicant must be the first author of the paper and have the approval of all co-authors for its submission as a student paper
– The applicant should personally make the oral presentation of the paper and, if awarded, attend the award ceremony
– Previously awarded students cannot apply for a second award
– The paper should be submitted according to the general submission procedure of the EUSFLAT conference, therefore meeting the
general deadline given in the conference call for papers
– Local EUSFLAT organizers will allow in submission procedure to mark as “student paper” any submission, once the above conditions
are clearly stated and that the applicant will be removed from the candidates list if any of them are not fulfilled
– Local EUSFLAT organizers should include in referee reports a YES/NO question asking each reviewer if the submitted student paper
can be suggested for the Best Student Paper award, and whenever possible, such a review form should allow a numerical score (e.g.,
"Presentation: 1-5, Technical quality: 1-5, ...., Overall: 1-5")
– Once the paper has been accepted for oral presentation and the final version submitted, the local EUSFLAT organizer must give the
EUSFLAT board member in charge of student awards (currently Prof. Bernard De Baets, bernard.debaets@ugent.be) access to all
student papers and their respective anonymous reviews in order to appoint, in advance to the EUSFLAT conference, best candidates to
the Best Student Paper award
– Whenever possible, EUSFLAT local organizers will take into account in the conference program organization the presence of appointed
student papers to facilitate their scheduling prior to the Commission Award meeting
– The Conference Local Chair will arrange the Award Commission with a room for a session
– The Award Commission will be formed by all the EUSFLAT board members plus the EUSFLAT Conference Local Chair (or any other
delegated person)
– The President of the Commission will be the President of EUSFLAT, and in case of absence, in this order, the Vice-President of
EUSFLAT, or the EUSFLAT board member in charge of student awards, or the EUSFLAT board member with first membership to
EUSFLAT
– The President of the Commission can invite other specialists to join the Award Commission
– The President of the Commission will nominate a Secretary of the session in case the EUSFLAT Secretary is not present
– Any potential conflict of interest affecting a member of the Award Commission should be clearly stated at the beginning of the session
– The Award Commission will take into account both the quality of the paper itself and the quality of the oral presentation
– The awarded applicant will receive, in addition to the Award itself, a 200 Euro valued prize plus a one-year free subscription to EUSFLAT
